Well Im new here and have a question on some stuff. I have rolled on 4 coats of interlux brightside paint and I made my own color! It is dark gray. I rolled on one coat let it sit for 24 hours then painted on another coat let it sit for 24 hours and then wet sanded with 600 grit sand paper. But I dident get all the brush marks out of the paint because I kept burning threw the paint. So I rolled on another coat and it came out very nice then wet sanded with 800.

This is a 93 cavy that I use as a toy/winter beater. It has ported head, cat back, 1.6:1 rockers, bigger TB, shift kit and a reprogrammed chip. I've fixed up cars since the early 70's and with this car rusting out horribly, I decided to try the cheapo way.

It was going to be a RWD V8 transplant, since its hard to find unrusty Vega's, but I let it go too long, then saw the fast and the furious and just had to make this run better. Not a big problem since we race midgets with 300hp 4 bangers, ...

I ended up with seven coats and right now it's all the rubbing out and polishing . The Mothers Powerball seems to work really well for compounding and the yellow one for the polishing.

The paint needs some work, we will be redoing it in black. My question is what do you do about all the small rock chips/ door dings, is there a way to fill them or do I need to sand all of them out?

I was linked to this from the mopar forum, which is fine because I was only on there for the rustoleum paint forum.

I have ZERO training in body or paint. I don't even really like doing it. I do like saving money by doing things myself. So if you see dents in the vehicles I paint it is supposed to be there....

My only project to date was my 94 dodge cummins drag/fun truck. My brother and I did this paint job in our friends 2 car garage with no previous experience.

from 1TUFF68

Thanks guys, looking forward to learning better techniques for applying the paint.

One thing I definitely recommend is a Porter Cable 7424 or Meguiar's G110 dual action polisher.

You can use it to sand, and it is critical for the final paint ...

I had read about roll on paint for a long time before talking my brother into letting me try it on our truck. It came down to needing the truck to be 1 color instead of 3 colors. I think it turned out ok, could have been better. Color is forest green, mixed with black and aluminum paints.
I wonder if it would come out glossy? I'd try it, but I can only find it by the gallon for 30 bucks. It looks almost identical to the silver on my rocco (there was some on a card, but it was laminated, so I couldn't see if it was glossy or not).

Since jbudi101 and I painted his fender with auto paint but brushed it on, it turned out excellent but definitely lighter shade than expected. So what got me thinking was why does rustoleum seems so soft as compared to jbudi101's auto paint? Then it dawned on me (like duh!) it's the hardener. So today I bought some hardener (will post exact brand later cause I am tired but cost me $15 which will do ...

Do you use mineral spirits to thin it like you would with the rustoleum?

After reading the product description it mentions chemical resistance. Anyone tested this by spilling gasoline on it? I'm going to paint a motorcycle tank and wonder how it will hold up to gas dribbles.
