LoL! But look at how much fun you are going to have. Is that an older Subaru? A buddy of mine had an 80's wagon that was white. Then he got a newer one that we call the short bus, of course it is yellow and since MR2's only have 2 seats well guess who is usually the designated driver LoL.

ROFL yes sir, its an 80s Wagon. My first car bought in september as an automatic with 79k miles. Now a manual with 93k miles and 2k into it lol.

Well so far looks like you are doing a good job. Don't worry, my car is an 86 and I love it, so if you like your ride that's all that matters. Don't hesitate to ask questions and don't get discouraged if the paint goobers up, runs, or just looks bad, it can always be fixed. Let it run if it wants unless you just laid it on. Thin coats, and most importantly, plenty of pictures LoL.

I just finished sanding the primer it feels like a babies butt. Thats what im looking for right? Can I do 2 coats of the 50/50 mix then sand. And then use your recipe for all the next coats? This way I dont need as much reducer

You sure can. It will cover just fine on top of 50/50 mixed paint. I have done it with no ill effects.

I missed what you used for a hardener...

I used a PPG automotive hardener from my local auto paint store. Same with the reducer just in medium grade. Both are for acrylic enamel.

cool - I can get tons of that wholesale. If my final sand/polish doesn't look good enough I may add another 2 coats with my leftover paint.

Glad my little experiments have paid off LoL. My hood is coming along nicely and if you do at least test it yourself you will soon notice the paint is harder and more durable.

I think your recipe should seriously be stickied as its working wonders for me.

MR2....thanks for doing all the leg work. My concern with doing a rolled job was the hardness but I guess you have figured that out. Your test pieces look great. I wish I could use that red on my Falcon but the red on my interior is a different shade and it wouldn't match so I'm sticking with the white. Thanks again for keeping us posted.

No problem. There is an MR2 Owner using my recipe with his white MR2. He has told me repeatedly that the paint is laying down much better than the 50/50 mix he started with. He also is showing the same wet sanding results as myself (easier to sand because it acts like auto paint). From the pictures he has posted (coat 6 or 7) he is still getting orange peel but I think it is his roller pads. Might be his sanding skills. But like I proved long ago, no matter how rough the paint, as long as it is thick enough, you can wet sand it flat.

wet sanding will cure a multitude of sins. over the years I have sprayed a ton of cars, enamel, urathane etc and one thing remains the same, wet sanding is the key.
I can see where loading up the roller could cause orange peel. When I spray enamal I like to really thin out the paint, seems to make it flow better.

I have already mixed a 50/50 half gallon of rusto and MS. will the hardener and reducer formula still work or would I just use hardener? I want to end up with the hardest surface possible because this is going on an off-road vehicle.

I can not honestly answer. I never mixed up 50/50 then add hardener.

If I used Interlux brightside (polyurethane) I would use urethane hardner/reducer or would it have to be polyurethane hardener/reducer? Is there a difference?
