Rolling my 81 Classic Corolla

Post by Pitirre on April 1st 2012, 8:01 pm

Here I will keep everyone posted on my 1981 Corolla SR5 Liftback project.

I am a person who really is into classic Japanese cars so when I found this Corolla not to far from my house with 74,000 miles and at a great price I had to have it.

I just had sold my 82 Corolla and 73 Datsun 1200 so I needed a project.

She need's a little work in the body, interiors and engine but it will all be accomplished and posted here

*Plans for it*

Well what I really want is to make a great looking weekend car with some nice 1.8 RWD power but with a nice rolled on paint job and everything done by me.

Color I want to use is rustoleum sunrise red and will be changing all interior color to black so it will match.

Pics:

Here is the condition I picked her up, 100% stock and untouched since 1981.

One of my favorite cars that I've owned over the years was an '85 4WD Tercel wagon that I got for free, needing engine work. I used the 1.5's head and bolted it to a 1.6L block from a corolla, same engine family so it was a direct swap. I then put on a Westin bull bar from my explorer and the stock wheels from my '07 Yaris which were considerably taller. That made for a good looking car, I like old Toyotas and it's good to see people keeping them going

Yes sir it came out extremely glossy.

I used penetrol so the orange peel was very minimal, I only sanded once and that was after coat #4.

Today im gonna be sanding with 2000 grit and laying down 2 more coats.

That Corolla of yours looks so sweet! Really good job, should turn out great after some buffing Smile
Just a question, how many cans of spray primer did you use?
