Pearl/ Metallic spray job and clear coat

Post by wwwdotanthony on June 18th 2012, 8:17 pm

I know this has probably been asked a million times, but has anyone successfully done a pearl/ metallic job using topside etc.? I was thinking of buying topside and adding pearl/ metallic to it...

maybe trying this clear (has uv protection) and adding the pearl/ metallic to it if its not an arm & a leg.

Its a urethane clear which should work with a polyurethane paint like topside?

Any advice is welcomed.

I won't comment on the paint but I do know you can't add large metallics like metalflake and roll it. I have tried several times and it just won't work. Spraying is the ONLY way you can do that. You will also need at least 3 coats of clear with nothing in it so you can color sand and buff without getting into the metallic/pearl.
If the two type of paints are compatible with each other and can be cut with mineral spirits I would say go for it. Sounds pretty. Please post pictures and explain your process when you get done because this is an oft asked subject.
