1976 MGB Rolled on Project with Rustoleum Burgundy

Post by canuwoo on June 24th 2012, 9:49 pm

Well, after several months of viewing this website, reading articles and watching YouTube, I jumped in and started painting. I bought the car as a beginner project to keep me busy after completing my Masters in Human Relations.

After Primer

Here it is after the first coat 50% Paint, 50% Mineral Spirits

Here it is after the second coat

I plan on wetsanding tomorrow and then paint on the following day if time allows. I would like to thank everyone on this website for their inspiration. This is truly an enjoyable experience.

My future plans for this car is to put one of the two engines I have just sitting around. Either the 305 or the 302. That maybe the winter project.

Choosing a motor for a swap because you have it "just sitting around" is the worst way to choose and often results in aborted projects. Do some research and decide what is best for you. The 302 Ford is a common swap but does require a bit of fabrication and cutting the fenderwells for headers. The 60 degree Chevy V6 is a very common swap and highly supported. It is what I have in my 70.

It has been awhile since my last post but I have been busy. I am up to coat number 6. I changed my mixture to 50/50 Paint/Penetrol.

Lookin' good. Whoa, I never noticed 3 windshield wipers on those cars before! Peterbuilt cabovers had that for a while, in the '70s I think.
