going dark to light,should i primer?painting a VW bus

the VW bus is red W/white top & we're wanting to paint/roll on white from the belt line up to match,should i primer?i have roughed up the old paint & did some body work with a little bondo which i know i'll have to prime anyway,any thoughts on this?

& would spray primer be OK to use?

I always prime. Try the Rusto primer surfacer in quart or gallon cans. You can roll or spray it.

All you need is enough to cover the red. I'm like 63falcon, I always primer. That gives a solid one color base to start on.

Ok,getting closer,still sanding nicks & dings out-there must be 10,000 small stone chips on the front mad3 ,try to feather/blend sand em flush..is a P.I.A! ahhh

how should i cut the prime 50/50?? huh and how many coats?
