1951 chevy deluxe

Post by wayne57 on August 2nd 2012, 9:18 pm

just started doing the paint on my 51 chevy
i did all the body work in my driveway and primed it
with rustoleum auto primer. looked pretty good for a driveway
body shop. i sanded and prepped the fenders first and covered it
with regal red rustoleum. Two coats so far.

hardley any orange peel at all. I,m gonna let it dry for four or five days then give two
more coats of red, let it dry for four five days wet sand it then give it the first two coats of clear.
the body and roof are gonna be semi gloss black. I tried the two tone effect of red and black.
I think it will come out nice. Havent decided on the wheel colors yet but they will
either red or black.

thanks for viewing

Everybody thinks that "bubbletops" were just an early '60s thing...
That red looks awesome on there. That car is kind of asking for a two tone even. I'd use white. Not sure what the factory scheme would've been or if there even was one, but that's what I'd go with.

All red would look hot though too.

I'm looking forward to more pics and progress though.

51 chevy paint

Post by wayne57 on August 2nd 2012, 11:13 pm

just the fenders are red and tapered down to the front
of the rear wheel well. the rest is either black satin or black semi gloss
with a few pinstripes.
gonna prove to the doubters that custom paint can be achieved
with a little hard work and some thought at a minimal cost.

thanks for viewing and replying

NICE. I grew up with these cars. That curve you put on your door reminds me of the 1953 buick chrome strip I put on my 1950 merc leadsled. I would go with gloss paint tho but that's just me.lol Its your car so don't let the haters get to you. I WILL be watching this one.
