Need General info and mix ratio. (Spraying With Wagner HVLP)

Post by Pitirre on August 16th 2012, 10:37 pm

Whats going on guys and gals, last week I started my 1979 corolla SR5 project and wanted to know what steps and ratio to use.

I will be spraying with the new Electric HVLP Wagner doble duty sprayer. The color will be rustoleum gloss royal blue.

Materials: 3 quarts of paint, 1 gallon of clear mineral spirits, 1 quart japan drier and 1 quart penetrol, Primer has already been applied.

I have done a rolled paintjob before but never a spray job so this is all new to me.

Questions?

1) Should I mix the paint with penetrol, mineral spirits and Japan drier?

2) What ratios should I use of each of these?

3) It being sprayed how long should I wait between coats and how many coats?

4) Is the paint hardener necessary in all coats and whats the pros on this, does hardener really make the paint glossier?

Any other questions Ill make sure to post as I come upon them.

Thanks.
cheers

the mix ratio I would use would be 4:1:1, four part's paint ,one part ms,one part valspar hardner is what I would use for the hardner ,available at tractor supply,3-4 coat's ,about 15-20 minute's between coat's, first coat willl be a light tack coat , second coat would be your color coat , this coat is the coat you try to get even coverage of the whole car, third and a possible fourth coat are your shine coat's, hope this help's man ,and my mix ratio is how I mix most acrylic or synthetic enamel automotive paint ,it work's pretty good with any oil based enamel paint job. thumbs up
