jeep project... mud staining the paint???

I just rolled my jeep tj ,2 parts hunter green 1 part red rusty metal primer. It makes olive drab green. anyhow, mud is staining the paint something terrible! should i clear it? Ive put clear over rustoleum once and it just did not come out at all. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks!

Adding the primerr to the paint left you with an unsealed surface. If you want to keep the drab look, a satin clear will seal things properly.

Ahh I see. Thanks for the help. What brand of clear? Does rustoleum even make a clear?

I don't know about everywhere, but wal mart here in MO carries rustoleum clear in quarts in the automotive section. It's not much cheaper than an automotive clear though at around $25 a quart.

I would be careful using the rusto automotive clear , as it is laquer based and may have a bad reaction to the regular rusto, if I were to use a clear I would use an automotive acrylic enamel or urethane clear, such as kirker or matrix, this would not react with the under coats as a laquer based product would ,and these clear's offer better uv resistence , as the laquer based clear's would not last that long and may only last a few monthes and start to fade.

I had for gotten about kirker.... The just realeased a new industrial type acrylic clear not too long ago.

yeah kirker wouldnt be bad. I just know Ive had some seriously bad luck with the rusto roll on . Im not giving up though!! haha Im getting ready to tear the jeep down one more time. I appreciate everyones help.
