Hardener on last coat ?

Post by TimG on October 5th 2012, 12:12 am

I sprayed my car 2 weeks ago with rustoleum gloss black thinned with acetone and added the correct amount of hardener, but it turned out really rough with dry spray so I'm redoing it. I sanded it back down with 800 grit & rolled on a coat tonight, but forgot to add hardener. So my question is should I bother adding hardener to the final coat, or just skip it at this point. I'm afraid that if I add the hardener that I may sand through the final coat into the no hardener coat while color sanding and buffing. Thank You for your help. Also I'm now using penetrol and paint thinner to thin with.

I would add the hardner to the last coat, will actually make the cut and buff easier.
