A lot of those particles on the hood are just dust. I didnt really wipe it off before I took the photos.

I plan to do one more coat and the 1500 grit wet sand and polish.

Well I'm headed out to inspect the pain. It was very cold last night. I think I should probably let it sit until next weekend before sanding and adding another coat. Especially since I'll be driving this to work tomorrow morning. We'll see.

A couple more photos today. The sun was bright. At the right angle you can see the aluminum/metal flake.

I'm still letting that 6th coat and all the rest under it set. I figure they could use some time to set in this cold.

I also spent two hours this evening sanding the LS Fest off the sides and rear of my truck.

I did not, but I also wasnt looking for it. I just wet sanded, dried and rolled. Didnt inspect closely.

To me though the flake is not real noticable until hit with light like in the last pics I posted. When not in direct sun light it looks a lot different. But I also havent done any sanding since the last coat in the pics above.

I will sand this weekend and apply the last coat. Once it sets for a month or so I will final sand and polish. I think then I would have your answer for you on how the flake effected it. But remember, I have no painting experience before this. So I may not be answering your question correctly.

That is an in interesting approach there. I'm curious to see how the rest of the truck looks.

In response to your comments about finding dents, you can use what is called a guide coat. Typically this is a dusting of a contrasting color over primer. You sand the surface and anywhere the guide coat is left is a low area, and consequently the areas that sand down the quickest are your high areas.

Notice the black paint over the yellow primer, when done sanding the low spots will be indicated by the black paint/guide coat that remains.

Alright, great.

So, when a low spot is found just simply fill with bondo and wipe even? Or do I have to sand down to metal? And on high spots I tap it down with a hammer then check if i tapped it too far and then fill if so?

Well it depends on the nature of the problem, but I would probably lean towards filling it with bondo or something similar and sanding it smooth. Metal has a funny way of bending some times and different dents may require different techniques.

If the panel is "dented" then fill it with Bondo or hammer it out. If your panel is "wavey" then load the panel with primer and block it straight.
I know this is a lot to take in and a lot to try to explain. Go to my 63 Falcon under projects and loot at some of my body work pics and look on You Tube for block sanding videos.
Hope this helps.

In my opinion these are the 3 best projects to look at for following a project from start to finish. Everything from welding to body repair, block sanding, painting, polishing etc.
There are many great paint jobs on this forum, look through them, ask questions.

Bob your answer was way better than mine.

I thank you Bob and JWP very much for taking the time to post a reply on this thread. It is very helpful and when I get home I will hopefully have time to do as you've instructed and review the three other projects that you posted. I've looked through some of the projects but was more focused of the outcome at the time. Now I'll go back and learn something.

Do you think the issue was the fact that you let the paint sit in the jar for too long?

Either way, thanks for sharing the ups and downs.

Yes, It was close to the same time as I had done for all the previous coats, but this time it was a little warming outside. MS must have evaporated. I should have just test the paint before applying it. I probably could have just added more MS to it to fix the problem.

I hope to fix my mistake this weekend.

Thank you Sir!

I'm trying to guestimate how long is long enough to let this paint cure before doing the final sand and buff. I've heard people say they waited a month in warmer temps. So far I'm planning to just wait a month.

Any suggestions?
