I've made a little summary video of the progress so far.

Y'all are going to want to smack me when you see the technique I used. I really didnt want to show you but figured I could handle the negative comments.

Hi Gear,
First off, I saw somewhere (here or youtube) that you are a Marine. Thank you for your service.

I'm intrigued by your metalflake process. Can I ask where you purchased the aluminum flake?

Most of what I have read says that you will need a clear coat to keep the flake from oxidizing. Are you planning to clear coat? If so what with??

Keep up the good work man it is looking awesome.

Thank you very much Kdiddy!

Yes I spent 4 years in the Marine Corps and am currently in the Army for 5 years now. Thank you for your support.

The metal flake I'm using is actually just "Aluminum" colored Rustoleum paint. There should be a photo of it with the other colors that I mixed. I just thought I'd mix it in to see what happened and this was the result. I want you to know that you only see the flake right now when the sun is bright. I should probably add more Aluminum. I do not plan to clear coat, because I want the paint to be easily touched up in the future. This is just a work truck and I'm not looking for show quality. That would also explain why I'm using Rustoleum. I'm one to take risks and go against the grain and test things out. Which also means I prefer to learn the hard way most of the time. This way I usually understand the method better. I've read somewhere that you're not even supposed to mix these two types of paint. You'll notice the Aluminum paint is more watery and no where near as thick as the regular colored rustoleum paints.

THanks for the motivation!

Re the aluminum, oops didn't look close enough. I hear you on the touch up thing. My rig is a 83 toyota 4x4 and it is a hunting rig. It is gonna get dinged up once in a while. And fixing a ding easily is a top priority of mine. The truck suffers from the usual bed rot of that period but a new fiberglass bed is being shipped as we speak. I feel kind of silly dropping 2 grand on a new bed and then painting the rig with rusto but that seems to be the direction I am going.....It just makes sense for me.

Don't worry about your unorthodox methods. You are pioneering new ground and we will all learn from each others successes OR failures. Heck if we were doing things the "right" way we wouldn't be on this site.

Maaannn, I'm glad you asked.... This is the one forum I forgot to update. Been out of it lately because some **** thieves stole my truck a week ago Friday. February 15th my wife and I went out on a date night and left the kids home with a sitter. We ate and then a movie. When we came out of the movie my truck was gone. Its been a sad week man.

Earlier in the day before my truck was stolen I was contacted by LSXTV.com about doing an article on my truck and the Fat Smokey burn out video I did. Well, by the time I was able to respond to his email the truck was stolen. So he turned the article into a BOLO for my truck. Really was nice of them.

Here's the article with videos:

I hope you plan on bringing a weapon - for protection.

The worst part about these things is not knowing. I'm wondering if it was someone who saw your ride on the internet and knew what they were getting and where to come, or if it was just some locals who had seen the truck drive by, or heard about it.

I'd be wanting to at least pistol-whip whoever did that...

Well no luck today. checked out another two different areas of this town and left pictures with a few people.

Yea, we had the same thought at first to. we thought it was somebody who knew what was in it or under the hood, because why would anybody steal a truck that looked this rough. But the reason I think it was just random was because they broke into another 80's car in the lot next to mine for the radio.

I've bee told by a cop today that theyre stealing them and running them to the next town over to be crushed or quick cash.

Thanks man. Yea, it really sucks. But I'm trying to stay positive and more forward. Spilt milk! I took out a loan and drove picked up another project truck last Sunday. I wish this one was in rough shape so I could play with the paint but Its all shiny Sad

I've seriously considered getting this one running and selling it for profit and then buy one in rough shape again just so that I can paint it.
