Newbie from Leesburg, VA

Post by burakol on June 5th 2013, 11:23 am

Hi all,

Newbie here from Leesburg, VA. This is so timely that I came across to this great site! This will be the number resource site that I will use now that I am ready to start with my roll-on paint job... Just yesterday, I went to walmart and bought myself the following:

2 qts Rustoleum Smake Gray Paint
1 Gal. Kealns trip "Green paint thinner"
6inches Smooth roller foam brush plus 3 extra rollers
300, 500 800, 1200 grits of wet/dry sand paper
Turtle wax compoun

Still have some apprehension about the paint thinner I will be using as well as the rubbing compound... And I would really prefer to have a darker shade of gray paint instead of the smoke gray... If only my local walmart carried the charcoal gray, that would be my preference.

Welcome to the forums! Enjoy your stay, unlike yourself I haven't made any purchases yet. I'm still gathering some information.

Welcome. Glad you found us!
Is your roller made of a high density foam? If not it needs to be. The black sponge rollers will not work very well.
As far as your thinner goes, I "think" what you have is mineral spirits which is fine to use.
Read as much as you can on the process and the biggest thing is to take your time. Coverage will come as you add coats. To thick of a coat will or too many coats at one time will make a ton of extra work for you.
What are you painting?
Good Luck

89 celica gts. Thinking of mixing smoke grey with aluminum and black to make the grey a little darker. How about rolling the primer?

How do i find if it's high density?
