mixing tredclad (rust-o) with another color?

Post by cb-7 on January 8th 2008, 2:59 pm

ive read from other fourms about this amazing paint job Very Happy where people have mixed colors together? has anyone else tryed this? ... im most likly gonna attempt this when weather gets nicer out but im not really feeling the gray colored options tredclad has to offer. Im thinking about using the gray and mixing in black? to give it a darker shade and yes i will b meassuring it for every layer

Adding Black to Gray doesn't always produce a desired darker gray. Gray is made up from more than just black and white. You might consider mixing in a little dark blue for a cooler gray or red for a warmer gray.

One advantage of the roll on method is you can mix up a batch and roll it on, if it is not quite the color you want mix the next batch a little different and roll again. The first couple coats only help cover the old paint color.

I would however want at least the last 4 coats to be all the same mix, and once I found the formula I like I would mix up enough in one batch to do the last 4 or 5 coats so any wet sanding doesn't show a different color if sanded down a bit too far. Smile

I might do some gray mixing myself eventually for my pickup. Haven't decided on the color for sure yet. But that won't be for quite some time. Looking forward to seeing your results.
