Hunter Green 1978 Bronco

Post by derekdj87 on October 24th 2013, 3:55 pm

I just found this website earlier this week, and decided it was time to make my winter beater/ trail rig a solid color. I chose hunter green because the interior was already green and the hood was a dark green that I liked. I thought the hunter green was going to be darker, it's no big deal. Due to it being mostly a beater I'm not taking the steps to make it pretty. I'll post pictures of before and after each coat is finished for those that want to know what it looks like to not do very much sanding and only thinning out 4/1.

Sounds like a great project. I too did not like Hunter Green so you can mix your own, 3 parts hunter green + 1 part gloss black --etc....

Or go lime green maybe 3 parts hunter green 1 part yellow, mix small amounts in a cup eventually you'll get a cool color

Good Luck

So as I said I would post pictures throughout each coats.  Here are some before I started painting.  Looks rough.

Here is the first coat, you can see the blue showing through on the rear panel and black on the front.

Second coat has it mostly covered up.

Third coat is completely covered.  I also had the soft top snaps and zippers fixed while painting.

Now just some small detail items to take care of like wheel polishing, painting of hubs and bumpers, and it should be atleast presentable while still cheap enough I don't care if I scratch it.
