Lets talk about original factory paint blistering.

Post by CHEVYTRUCKLOVER on August 16th 2016, 10:10 pm

I know a lot of you are familiar with Chevrolet,Ford and Dodge factory paint not adhering to the factory primer in roughly 1886-1998 cars and trucks. My concern (PLAN A) is will my rolled on rustoleum paint adhere to the remaining factory paint after I sand off the clear coat and primer over the top of the sanded factory paint and factory primer. Long run on sentence but you know what I mean.

I would really hate to do all this work and have it just blister again.

Plan B is really expensive. Bead blasting to metal re priming everything redoing body work 2 stage paint etc.

IF this has been discussed already please post location or add comments.

Hey David...I am all to familiar with Chevy paint flaking off of hoods and trunk lids. If you can sand off the clear coat and leave some of the color coat, prime over that, paint, you will be fine. The issue back then was with the clear coat, not the paint and primer.

Thanks 63 falcon,
That is kinda my hope also. I feel I just needed another affirmation on one of the uncertainties of life.

Thanks again
