Hay from Iowa!

Post by rebar on June 30th 2017, 11:17 pm

Hi everyone.

I'm Mike from Iowa City and I need to paint some body work Iv done to my cummins powered 1995 E350 van.  I bought it with the intentions to convert it to 4x4, but having second thoughts because of the rain gutter rust damage and my garage is to low.   I'm repairing it with marine epoxy in hope that it lasts longer than bondo glass.

Thanks for letting me join Matt!

Thanks 63Falconconvert..

Iv read allot here and there and feel confident I could do one of these paint jobs.. But I'm still stuck on how long the paint job would last as a daily driver left outside in direct sunlight.  The only thing that keeps me interested is the fact I'm using white and doubt white could become noticeably chalky.

Its to bad Valspar Restoration Series Paint has been discontinued.

Welcome from Cali to Iowa!

Matt- Welcome! I painted my 1963 Comet with rustoleum (rolled on!) and it lasted for more than 7 years- I sold it to make room for another project. If you sand, sand, and sand, and use multiple thin coats (with sanding in between) then you will have a decent paint job for a driver- maybe better!

This is the pic of the car, as the new owner drove it away, 7 years after I painted it. See my (sad) shade in the foreground...

I'm going on 6 years and it shines and has depth just like it did when I first completed it. I keep it waxed and once I year I use the DA on it with Meguiers Ultimate Polish.
