81 toyota old school longbed mini

Post by megaglow_z on February 13th 2008, 2:12 am

Well,i traded off my blazer for a project a little more in my budget.
The blazer needed ALOT of mechanical work.

This is my first pure project vehicle....Ive always had to drive anything I have owned...lol
So i can really tear this thing down and give you guys a lot to look at Smile

Ok...here she is as it sits on the pad right now.

So here are the facts.
Motor has just been rebuilt.
5 speed trans just rebuilt.
A/C WORKS!
cruse works!

perfect running condition....now we will make it look as good as it runs Twisted Evil

I started ripping out the interior "I will start a thread in interiors when i get a few more things together"
Door panels, center console are out, seats and carpet are next.

I have a VERY cool technique I have learned to make interior parts look like there leather covered.
The interior will be black with chrome accents, have a carputer installed, skull shifter blah blah blah.

The truck will be lowered as far as a static drop will allow, the rims will be power coated black, and the chrome rings and center caps re polished.
The front bumper will be replaced "its bent" with a new chrome one and the lower turn signals will be re chromed and have a custom made clear lens in.all new lenses all around and tinted tails.
The motor accents will be powder coated black ,valve cover will be powder coated chrome, and the block will just be power washed and acid washed back to bright aluminium and the wiper arms will be coated in textured black.
Ill be looking into a full phantom grill as well.

Now the biggie.....WHAT COLOR FOR THE TRUCK?!

Gloss black, satin black or red, or somthing else????
I have owned 5 blue vehicles in a row,and am not wanting any thing blue on it AT ALL.

I am looking for kind of an evilish look to it Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

So what do you guys think?

Looks like a good project. I like old Toyota trucks. Very curious about the leather wrapped interior. I would actually be interested in doing that to my car.

Well,I really actualy like blue...but i have just owned to many...lol
I literaly laughed my *** off when i saw this toyota was blue.

I have had a cosmic blue 83 subaru,a med blue 78 corola,a dark blue 91 chevy stepside and 2000 s-10,and a gold 79 celica that the trade school i was going to for tv/vcr repair painted, you guessed it....BLUE!!!
Only other ones were the camo blazer and a white 86 Pontiac parisian

So i really want a change.

Thats why i was looking at the gloss black, flat black,or one of the reds.

I like it. Nice solid project. I am a sucker for old school yotas, datsuns, luvs, etc... If you want low and mean you can't really go wrong with a satin black. Red can be mean as well. You could even do red and black? Call it the black widow. I dunno man it's up to you. A full face phantom will really change the look of it. I put one in my Sonoma and did a round headlight conversion. I had never seen it done before so I gave it a shot. Turned out pretty good I think. Good luck with your project.

Thanks. It was really just fabbing up some brackets to hold the lenses. The rest went together pretty easily.

figure i would start on the interior while i wait on the weather.

When the carpet gets dry ill be dying it black as well.

Ok,need another opinion, the lower parts of the dash are metal, should they be the same color as the truck,or black as well??

Nah...i like the gloss.it matches the seats!!!
I'm pretty much set on the carnival red now.just waiting on the weather to stabilize a little. To much variation day to day right now.
so should the lower metal dash area be red or black???

Well hopefully you will see how mine turns out in that color in a few weeks (mid March). As far as the floor, I would go black. Too many contrasting colors on in an interior are... tacky.
