95 Jeep yj

Post by Corpse~Kid on February 23rd 2008, 9:01 pm

Sorry no pics yet. But a quick question on my project. My jeep was primer green from the po I started to roll gloss black over this I got 2 coats on half the truck and low and behold I found a color I like better. My question is can I just switch colors and start painting over what I have already done? I am going to switch to Gloss grey.

I see no reason why you can't change colors. The only issue you might have would be how many coats it will take to cover the black vs. the green. You might want to go ahead an roll a coat of black on everything first so you are dealing with the same base coat/bleed through as you cover the first several coats of gray. If the green is fairly dark green I wouldn't worry about it and just switch colors. Sand the black like you would between coats and go with the new color.

Yeah this type of paint isn't really picky about what it sticks to. Just make sure you have a nice uniform area to paint over. It would be a good idea like Rick said to start off with solid color to cover. You will have full coverage quicker and if it's near the same color as your top coat when you go to buff, a couple of "burn throughs" won't be as noticeable. Good luck.
