What does everyone do with their rollers between coats?

Post by bob84 on December 11th 2007, 3:48 pm

What are you guys doing with your rollers between coats? I'm going to do a test panel first to get the technique down, and I don't want to use a new roller for every test coat. My test Panel is going to be a spare targa roof that I have for the corvette; its about 2 X 4 so obviously its not going to take a whole lot of time for a single coat; i'd like to be able to use the roller for 2 coats at least.

Thanks.

I used the same roller for about 4 coats. Then a new roller on coats 5, 6, and 7 and then for the final coat I used a new fresh roller. In between coats I squeeze all of the paint out and wrapped the roller up in aluminum foil and a plastic bag. When using the aluminum foil, just wrap it up snug not tight because you don't want to distort the roller. Then take a plastic bag and put the roller inside and wrap the rest of the bag around the handle. Worked great for me Very Happy

JI wrap it in a plastic bag from the grocery store and then store it in the freezer overnight. Doesn't dry out and maintains it's . . . density!

I put mine in a small plastic bag and tied it off to keep as much air out as possible. I probably could have used the same roller for the entire truck but since I bought a multi-pack of the rollers I did coats 5 and 6 with fresh ones.

I started like suggested here storing my used rollers in Aluminum foil in freezer - BUT - now want to share the method I started using which I like BETTER, Zip Lock sandwich bags,
you can open the bag take your roller handle and place the roller within the bag in your hand and then PULL it OFF w/o getting paint all over yourself and then when you go to use it
again just reverse the bag in hand process and throw away those two baggies.

I used saran wrap over the end of the roller. The "cling" seemed to work rather well, kept the foam fresh.

All good ideas. Anything to keep the air away from the paint. I have used the baggies for paint brushes also but I like the saran wrap idea also.
