rusto clear. Where?

Post by retired plumber on April 17th 2009, 7:53 pm

I have been to 4 hardware stores looking for rusto clear and found it in spray cans but not qts. I was told it dosen't come in quarts. So..........my question is where are you getting it or are you guys using something else for clear. I really need to find something compatable with mineral spirits so I can try metalflake. Regular auto paint only works with its corosponding reducer as I found out and it sets up to fast to play with the roller and work stripes out. Thanks for your help.

The rustoleum paint...from what I have read...already has the clear coat in it. (if you were using Regal Gloss Red...or a gloss based Rustoleum paint).
In other words, you apply the rustoleum reduced with mineral spirits, let it dry overnight, wet sand it, wash the surfaces well, apply more paint...keep up the process until enough paint is layed down to totally cover the surface completely...most go about 7 to 8 coats...then do the final wet sanding with very fine wet/dry sandpaper and then buff the surface out until it's shiney. Wasn't sure if you needed this info or not, as it sounded like you might be using a metal flake paint...something other than rustoleum paint. Hope you don't mind me replying to your thread, just trying to be helpful.

Thanks Mikey. Yes I am wanting to put flake in it so it needs to be clear. I might have to see if I can find bright side or somehing else later on. The fancy paint is on the back burner for a bit because I am in the process of trying to get a t-shirt and etched glass business started.

I've been bugging them about doing qts in clear. But you can also use other clears besides rustoleum. Just costs a bit more
