Hi from Canada

Post by lalunette on May 25th 2009, 12:13 pm

I found out about this innovative way to paint a car by hanging around a couple Honda forums and ended up repainting my 1990 Honda Civic wagon using Armor Coat rust paint available at Canadian Tire.

I chose "Misty Grey" and used foam brushes to apply the product. I didn't thin my paint but got a decent finish nonetheless.

The wagon ended up under a truck but this opened the door to getting another project car. This time i went back to an earlier love... i.e. Lada cars.

I got my hands on a pretty decent 1991 Lada Signet station wagon (aka model 2104). The present color is "faded red" which I want to restore to "Fire Engine Red" before next autumn.

Now that I have a garage, and some better roll-on skills, I know I can do a better-than-decent job on the Lada.

Cheers !!

As promised... here are some pics of my car as it stands now.

And this is what it looked like when I bought it in Sept. 2008 in Calgary.

Thats a Russian car isn't it? Must be hard to get parts for it I would guess. Kind of a cute thing. Kind of reminds me of the Dodge colt station wagon a bit. Anyway, welcome and good luck with your project. Mike

Yes, it's a Russian car and parts are easy to come by as Lada is the 3rd largest car manufacturer in the world. We have a network of Lada enthusiasts around the world and there are several part suppliers in Europe who are happy to send us parts!

Cute?? I don't think I've ever heard a Lada referred to as "cute". As for resembling a Dodge colt station wagon, I hope not... those things are ugly as sin. LOL

Thx for the welcome and I look forward to repainting my car!!

Are You going to get lowering springs for it, along with the paint job.
An awful lot of air between the tire and the wheel arch.

Nope, I'm a big fan of stock height and ride.

Also, I'm 6'2"... so getting in and out of any lowered vehicle is a PITA.

However, I do intend to throw on some nice alu rims once the paint is all done.
