Rust Prohibitor

Post by T-Bucket Bob 23 on June 16th 2009, 10:17 pm

Hey Guys,

Is there any rust prohibitor I can use to keep my chassis parts free of rust after I strip the paint and primer off them? Also, would I be able to paint new rustoleum primer over them?

Thanks, T-Bucket Bob

A lot of people swear by POR15. I have never used it but it is highly recommended on most of the auto paint forums.

the rustoleum stuff works good too - its called rust reformer. But if you have bare metal, any primer will work fine to stop rust - just make sure to use primer sealer if you leave it just primer for any length of time. Primer doesn't seal the surface - it only gives you a platform to paint. Bare unsealed primer will rust as anyone from the midwest can tell you.. Razz

I sanded rust from my Corvair and just hit it with Rusty Metal Primer..I have some test pieces that have been outside for a few months with no signs of rust re-surfacing.
