Interlux Brightside questions

Post by jwv3 on January 6th 2010, 5:42 pm

New guy here and have a question on the Interlux Brightside paint.

Do you use mineral spirits to thin it like you would with the rustoleum?

After reading the product description it mentions chemical resistance. Anyone tested this by spilling gasoline on it? I'm going to paint a motorcycle tank and wonder how it will hold up to gas dribbles.

Thanks for the site and great info on roller painting!

Thats a good question that has been kicked around a lot. On older cars like my Falcon the gas always splashes back when pumping and runs down the panel. I'm not sure what you can reduce Brightside with, there should be some info on there web site. I know when I'm ready to paint the Falcon I'm going to use enamal reducer and hardener instead of mineral spirits. Check out these sites, there may be some good info you you.

Experienced Brightsider here -

You can thin with mineral spirits. The can says no not mix more than 10%, but some have had luck with as much as a 50/50 mix. Yours will likely be somewhere in the middle depending on humidity, how many layers of paint you're applying etc etc...

Mix a small amount at a time and play with the mixture. You should end up with like a 2% milk consistency lol. Let us know!

I havent tried mineral spirits with it but I did use xylene. That is actually what the 216 thinner they recommend is.

Hmmm xylene, didn't know that. How does it compare with mineral spirits?
