Estimation on square footage of my car

Post by Focus_rolld on February 21st 2010, 11:37 pm

I need to know an idea of the square footage of my car to know how much paint to get. It rolls 400^2Ft per gallon so it would be 100 feet per quart approximately unthinned

If you are using Rust-Oleum, three quarts should get it done.

I have sprayed quite a few things and I have never used over gallon. Even on a 3/4 ton super cab truck I usually have about a quart left. I put on three and sometimes four coats. I know this isnt rolling but when rolling there is much less paint put on per coat.
I agree with the three quarts. You don't want to run out in the middle of the last coat. Having a bit too much is good insurance and it won't cost that much extra and you will have some left for touch ups later. Also mix all three cans together before you start. That way its all the same color. Even tho the can says its the same, sometimes its not. Paint is made in large batches and all paint in that batch will match but the next batch may be just a tad different. It will look the same in the can but when painted side by side you can tell. I KNOW this for a fact.

I was hoping that a quart per coat would work .It may end up working out that way .

If you are rolling it on, a quart will cover more than one coat on a car that size.
3 quarts should get you about 8-10 thin coats when using a roller and a 50/50 mix with Mineral spirits.
