Mopar guy from MA saying hello!

Post by Sneke_Eyez on March 22nd 2010, 5:39 pm

Hey there everybody!
Stumbled across this lovely hang out for those who want to paint their cars on the cheap from moparts, where it all got started, and decided to join up here. I love forums, and I'm a moderator on LHForums.net, so I always jump at the chance to talk to others who have done a project.
I'm the proud owner of 4 vehicles:
2002 Dodge Intrepid ES, summer show car, my first car, heavily modded
2001 Dodge Intrepid SE, spring, summer, fall DD
1974 Dodge Dart Swinger 2dr Hardtop 318/904
1999 Oldsmobile Eighty Eight, the non-Mopar that doesn't belong, Winter DD

I have been researching the rolled on paint method for some time and I've now decided that it is about time to start my own rolled on project.
I'm a junior in college and I spend my limited free time during the school year planning for what I want to do when I get out of school in May.

The victim this summer is my 1974 Dart, which my father and I have been working on since we bought it in April of 2008.
When we bought it, it needed some work to be really roadworthy, and it is now running and driving very well, so its time to focus more on the exterior of the car. The previous owner didn't like the original beige paint job and had some rust to fix, so he spraybombed it hot rod black primer. Needless to say its ugly, and I'm not really a fan. I'm itching to get a cheap paint job on it so at least it looks ok for the occasional car show. We haven't done the bodywork except for a bit of bondo, so its not ready for a $3000 paint job yet, rolled on would be fine until we can get the new replacement QPs hung and get it painted by a pro.

Without further adieu, heres the car:

As you can see, we've done a fair amount of interior work to it, but the exterior is pretty lacking.
I think I'm going to roll it with some gloss white Rustoleum Professional as soon as I get out of school in May.
I'm also thinking of doing a gloss black hood and a spray-bomb gloss black tail stripe, but we'll see.

You need to upgrade the 318 to at least a 383 or even a 440 if you could find one lol. That would be a real sleeper. They were fun cars.

Welcome Sneke. It looks like you have a good start already on your project. You may like your rolled on job so much you can save the $3000+.

Welcome to rolled on sneke!

Agree with Mike that you just might have a great rolled on paint that you don't need to have any other paint job and then apply that $3000.00 for power adder & safty.

Love the old Dart too but that ponitiac style wing is just out of place on that old american muscle!

Good looking motor but If you have clearence I would add a taller air filter to let that thing breath!

Tis not a Pontiac wing at all, its an authentic Mopar Go Wing.
I love it, and therefore its not going anywhere.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone!
I'll join in the conversation, even though my project won't happen for a while...

Sneke,
Welcome to Rolled On. Great looking Mopar. Not a lot of those left. Keep the pixs coming with your progress.

I don't remember seeing a mopar go wing before. What did they come on or were they a factory option type thing or aftermarket?

They were available as a dealer installed option back in the musclecar heydey.
They're now reproduced by several different companies.

Here's an article from Mopar Muscle Magazine that details some history:

Here's a 70 Duster with a factory one:

Mine is a repop, I'm pretty sure (twas on the car when I bought it), but remains accurate to the A-Body style Go-Wing

I like the spoiler, it fits the Mopar muscle look. I always liked that green/black combo on that 70.
