Is that kind of rust common where you live?

just a tip on the rust. Sanding will make it look like its all gone, but there are usually little seeds of rust still hiding in the pores of the metal. Once you get it sanded off, get some rust remover chemicals - usually phosphoric or hydrochloric acid and clean the metal good. Then treat it with POR15 or whatever rust converter paint you can get over there.

If you don't do that, it will bubble in a year or so.

Yours looks like it will come out ok - I had huge gaping holes with no supporting metal under it

just gone thro MOT and set me back 620.00 so i havent got round doing any more work on it. rear doors had 4 coats and havent been wet sanded yet. tried to source PENETROL but the manager in dulux told me that they cannot sell anything which is solely for thinning oil based paints anymore. then i found out that in the uk the product is known as OWATROL and is the same product !
with any luck i will get some painting done during the summer holidays
