Bondo on plastic bumpers?

Post by tpirsig on April 6th 2010, 1:23 pm

Is Bondo going to be flexible enough to stick to my plastic bumpers? '98 Volvo S70. I've got them off the car, so most of the flexing will be when reinstalling. I need to fill some heavy scratches and so on.

Welcome back
I have used bondo on 3 bumpers before with no problem but they make special stuff for them now but I don't know the name of it. Also I did not use a flex agent in the paint for the bumpers either. My paint guy told me I didn't need any and there was no problem for me but your mileage may very. Actually I didn't have to flex the bumpers hardly at all when reinstalling them.

it also depends on what the bumper is made of - you can tell by the backside - theres a triangle with the info there..

some plastic you can 'weld'
some you can get fillers for

You can repair just about any kind of plastic - its just a matter of figuring out what to use

I got lazy & went with what I had on hand, "3M Lightweight Body Filler" -- and it seems fine, as far as sticking and so on.

I just put some regular old bondo on a 2 year old scratched Mustang bumper for a friend . Went on fine and sanded and primered good. Next week he will paint it so I will hear if the bondo stayed on then.
