available reds??

Post by $uperJoe on June 5th 2010, 5:12 pm

i am trying to find a red that is very close to GM color victory red 73u, 9260. i dont know enough about the rusto colors to be able to tell. i know i can mix but would like to keep a solid single color so i can keep touch up in a spray can in the trunk. its for an offroad truck and sometimes rocks and trees will hit and scratch it. i am torn between safety red and regal red. any suggestions that i may have over looked would be great because the guy that tried to help at the HD, is as slow as paint drying

Go to the auto parts store and get a small touch up can of duplicolor in your GM victory red and take the cap (which matches the color) and go to ace and see what matches. Then you can take the spray can back and tell them you messed up on the color and want your money back. Laughing .Well it works for me.

so i have recently went to the auto parts store and it appears with there poor lighting that the color i want will be very close to sunrise (sunset?) red. is there any color codes i could plug into the paint computer to see how close this color actually is? like a mix code or something

The only mix code you will find is at a auto paint store for the GM color you want to match. Tell them what you want and they "might" give you the code but that will be for their brand of paint only. You WON'T find one for rusto and I verrrrrrrrry seriously doubt you will find a ACE store that will even try to mix a match for you.
The 'puters that match paint are set up to match house paint and then (again) only the brands the store sell. I tried that with some real neat metallic purple finger nail polish one time at the paint store and got laughed at. they gave a color chart book to do my best at matching.

No problem. Life does get in the way of fun a lot (most) of time.
If you have any understanding of color theory you could try to match it your self using a color wheel but as much as I like color, and I have mixed a few myself, it can be a real bi%%h but it sounds like thats about the only alternative you have left.
