New to rolling, need help priming my stang.

Post by 5.0_guy on June 10th 2010, 7:18 am

Okay, I'm new to the whole rolling idea, but I don't have a lot of money, so I'm going to try it. After I do my bodywork and sand everything down, all I'm going to do is prime it. What kind of rusto primer do I need and what all do I need to prime my car and the steps in doing so. Any help is appreciated.

There have large books written on how to prime lol but basically what I do is mask the car and spray it on (or roll if you want). Any type of primer will work except you can't put laquer primer over recent enamel paint. One other thing you need to know is Primer is NOT water proof. Moisture WILL go through it and it WILL rust under it.

I don't know what you are doing but if you are going for a "rat rod" look or the popular "suede" look you need to put semigloss rusto over it. That will give you the primer look and seal the water out.

Good luck with your project. Any more questions just post them. I am here at least twice a day but there are also several people here that are experienced also and can answer questions also.

mine was covered with surface rust so i used the primer for rusty metal.. its worked great so far. Only prob was getting the buildup to cover scratches - it wasn't designed for that purpose..

Now that you have the primer down, add some sanding filler. Sand that down, and hit it with another coat of primer.

It worked on my Opel.
