Will this sander work?

Post by GLoBaLReBeL on July 29th 2010, 2:50 pm

Hey guys . .

I know that everyone says to use a DA sander and so forth but I have access to the following sander . .

Makita Finshing Sander

This sander is supposedly used for Wood surfaces but I would think it would work for metal as well. I'm only looking to use it to do my first sanding with 150 grit. After that I would probably just use a block and then finer grits along the way. This would allow me to get things down pretty quickly and make short work of bad spots on the car.

Your input is greatly appriciated.

It will work fine, but is not quite the same as a regular orbital with a round pad.

PS I purchased mine at HF for $15 and it works great!

haha, awesome! Thanks Jim. Anything I should know about using one of these things? I've used it for wood, just not paint.

Not really, it works the same as wood, but cuts quickly depending on the grit of the paper.

You can go to metal REAL QUICK with 150 so watch out (if you haven't been there yet).
