Looks pretty good.

I would suggest some quality paper towels, automotive grade is best. Also some rubbing alcohol for wiping down your surface between paint coats and after sanding.

You also need polishing materials. See my Opel Barn Find project thread for details. Barn find, click here

Good luck,

are you going to be painting over the primer with more rusto? i'm wanting to use interlux brightside paint on my truck but i'm very new to this idea and am curious to know if primer really matters with one step paints.

Yes I am going to use Rustoleum over the primer. The main reason I got the primer is that I am going to take the body down to bare metal to see what I am dealing with. Then I am going to primer over it. Then once the body is all good, I bought some safety red to go over the primer with.

Oh yeah, just got back from the store. Bought the starter kit, 10 roller pack which was in stock, primer, red paint and mineral spirits. I probably need to pick up some brushes still.

Pretty hot and nasty out, plus it is suppose to rain today, so not sure If I will make any progress, but if I do, I will take pictures and start a thread in the project section. I want to talk to my dad about it before I start too.

That is how I did it. The even color of the surface reduces the number of coats.

Plus on the can, it says the primer helps to protect the metal more from rust, which is my main goal.

Got $51.83 into it so far.

If the color already on the car is all one color and has had a good sand over with some 400 grit you don't need to use primer. If you have spots where you have done some body work and either have filler or raw metal showing it will take less coats if you primer those spots first.

Those should work fine. You can either use once and toss or if you keep the used roller in a container with a mix of mineral spirits and water you can reuse the same roller. Just make sure no paint has dried on the roller. If there is even the slightest bit of dried paint on the roller, toss it and use a new one.

If there is already rust, you will need to remove it or at least neutralize it before applying paint. There are special primers that are designed to neutralize rust. Regular primer and paint will not stop rust.

Yes I plan to get rid of all the rust first, that is why I bough clean metal primer.

Haven't given up guys. Going to get some new doors and fenders tomorrow. Also waiting on my brother to finish his truck so I have some room in the garage. The supplies are sitting there just waiting for me to use them...

I bought a new top for the Blazer. It is fiberglass and I want to get paint on it asap. I am having a hard time finding a store the offers Marine Rustoleum paint. Any ideas how I can get my hands on some?

Why marine paint? Its fiberglass so regular rustoleum should be fine. You would want to scuff sand it first of course. Fiberglass dosen't require special paint. What works on metal will work on fiberglass however I have heard there is a fancy primer for "plastic" that comes in spray cans you might want to look into.

The "Marine Rust-Oleum" is the Topside brand which has U.V. protection which the regular Rust-Oleum does not. It also has a bit more gloss to it. I have been buying The Topside from Amazon.com and I have been paying close to the same price that I had been buying the regular Rust-Oleum in stores. I been getting free shipping from Amazon on the Topside.

No problem. The more I do this kind of project, the more I learn along the way.
