Best way to prep b/w coats of primer?

Post by BlackNDecker on September 11th 2010, 10:27 am

So I've started priming the car with Rustoleum clean metal primer thinned about 40% with mineral spirits. I applied the first coat and about to apply the next. Should I wipe it down with mineral spirits before the next coat of primer? Or just use a tack cloth?

I'm worried that mineral spirits will pull off some of the primer if I wipe b/w coats. I noticed this when I used mineral spirits b/w coats of paint after wet sanding.

Thanks in advance.

Try some rubbing alcohol, or just wipe down using a tack cloth.

I ended up using tack cloth. My plan is to put three thin coats of primer on then wet sand with 400 grit. After that I'll roll on the gloss black in thin coats.
