My new "old" Ride!!

Post by mapexgurl on September 16th 2010, 12:26 pm

1971 Dodge Demon

I'm on cloud nine! I was checking our local craigslist and found this Demon. I know this Demon. My boyfriend grew up around the area and always saw it in the driveway or their garage. Him and his friend always admired it. About 6 years ago we drove by that house just to see if it might be there. Sure enough, the garage door was open and that Demon was sitting in there. We couldn't believe they still had it! When I found it on craigslist I said "That's that car!!" I knew we had to get it. So I emailed through CL and didn't get an immediate response. I emailed again saying I lived really close... then I get a response. We set up a time the next day to look at the car. They were an extremely nice couple. It was her Uncles car. He had bought it for his wife. We worked out a deal and I had it towed home last night! It has 80k and is all original. Even got the original title. They purchased it new on Oct 9th, 1970 and it was in his wife's name. My bf asked if she rode in the car a kid. She said "Oh no, Aunt ___ never let anyone ride in her Demon." You can tell lol! Anyway here is my Demon! Feels nice to be the second owner.

Thank you! I'm really excited. bounce

I want to kinda keep it original. I'll probably do power brakes/front disc, electronic ignition, white buckets and rear seat, 4bbl carb and intake, duel exhaust and new headers. I'll paint it the og color and put some white stripes on it to dress it up. Oh and a new white top and rally rims and white letter tires.

making your shopping list already....Christmas is coming soon...lol
New "old" cars are the best, non-car people will never understand the excitment of dragging home a 40+ year old car, pouring hours of labor into it and then that huge smile you get the first time you drive it.....

Congrats. Nice car. Amazing that you have known the car for many years and then finally get it. I don't think any of the cars I wanted (that I grew up around) are still in existence anymore because they would be 50+ years old now Laughing

Well, I got another one!

1970 Dodge Dart Swinger

I originally bought it to steal some parts from it. But, now that I have it, I really just want to keep the Demon original. It's only original once!
The Dart has already been worked on...
Electronic ignition
front disc
8-3/4 rear end
New Flowmaster exhaust
New Carpet
New floors and trunk
New Gas tank and sending unit
He also included a rust free drivers side door and new windshield.

The previous owner just didn't have time for it. It might end up brightside fire red.

This is what I will be going for.

I can't wait to start working on them. Since I got the Dart I've decided to keep the Demon all original. The Dart will probably get a roller job, depending on how the Charger turns out. The Demon will have to be sprayed the og color. I think I can save a lot of the original paint though! Wet sand and polish and see how it is. The guy I bought the Dart off of does interiors for a living and said he could save the vinyl on the Demon and the carpet. I just bought a brand new radiator for the Demon since the one on it leaks. Also picked up a gas tank and sending unit. I really want to get it running before winter. For the Dart I just picked up a small block 727 transmission for it and a set of Rallye wheels with beauty rings and centers! I REALLY want to find a 340 block for it. hope They're getting harder and harder to find. If I can't it will probably get a 360 dropped in. I have a lot of work ahead of me! I've learned sooo much since we got the Charger though. Thank God for the internets!! lol

Oh yea! I took more pics of the Demon to show the originality of it!

Took the hood insulation off! Stupid mice!!!

Close up of the paint underneath it.

Original Inspection numbers. (Plan on putting them back or saving them)

Super clean glove box with the '70' written on the door!

Looks like they were non smokers!

Sticker on the Air Cleaner "Do not wash or oil." lol

I was showing it off to a friend at night and turned on the lights! Every light works on the interior. Even the AM radio!

Yea the Demon is really nice, A good cleaning and some touch ups here and there and it could be really presentable (plus getting the seats fixed)

You know, they used to have air cleaners that you could clean out and re-oil, thats why the "do not wash or oil" decal

Look up "oil bath air filter"

Congratulations on the old Mopars!

The first car I bought was a 318 Duster. It was a great car, but I was rear-ended by a blazer and the whole back end folded up. Every now and then I think about getting another one.

Nice Demon! I had one given to me but unfortunately it was in to bad of condition to do anything with. I want a 70-71 Swinger to be my next MOPAR project. Good looking cars.
