my 65 impala ss

Post by B.Radcliffe on September 17th 2010, 4:24 pm

Well started my rolled on project this morning!!! Not that the paint was in bad shape, but 25+ years old and needed a new look. The body is solid as a rock like the ole southern saying "Southern Born Southern Breed" built in Atlanta and spent most of her life in the south until 20-25 years ago. Never seen a salty snow covered road. So here goes no holes at all to repair just sand and fix a few little dings and dents. Sunrise Red!!!

Not done, but getting there. Decided to let her sit in the sun a few hours and bake the paint. The coverage after only two coats is awesome. Kinda jumped a step and wet sanded after the first coat lots of bugs in the paint from the night before. Gonna try some penetrol for the third coat.

I'm trying Penatrol on my Corvair but so far, it's not much better than spirits..Let me know what ratio you are using and how wet are you keeping the roller? Application pressure, etc.

Well at the rate i'm going thru paint 3 coats almost half gallon of paint. I think i will take a long weekend and do nothing but wet sand every square inch 119in wheel base till i see no orange peel and then spray the rest. When i mixed the paint today 16oz paint 4oz Penatrol and still had to mix more paint.

That car is a land yacht...LOL so it will take some paint to cover it.

For the dust, try running a ground strap ( a small piece of wire to the ground rod out side your shop, or water pipe) And try wetting the floor

Try 2 parts paint and one part Penatrol

If you forget to put the cap back on your penatrol over night, it will be no good, (ask me how I know, lol)

Looking good.

A set of redline wall tires or the wheels painted red, would be cool too.
