Buffing satin finish?

Post by cuup on September 29th 2010, 11:48 am

I have a quick question about finishing rolled on satin paint. I have been using rustoleum stops rust satin white on my car and it is looking pretty great so far, but I am getting close to the final coat and was wondering if anyone had experience with finishing the satin paints. Mainly I am concerned with it glossing up too much if sanded with 2000 and then buffed. I have not been able to find much info about this as most people seem to go with the gloss. The satin paint has something in it that will keep it from buffing up to a glassy finish, right? I'm assuming it will have more sheen if buffed than not, but how much should I expect?

I am considering just putting a last coat on and not doing anything to it other than wiping it down to remove dust and stuff, but ideally I would rather sand/buff it because I am painting it outside and I know that I will end up with some debris in the paint. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I have never used satin paint but I would think buffing would make it sort of glossy. Its only paint so just try a small spot and see what it does. You can always roll on another coat over that spot it you don't like it.
