What are you using to measure paint/mineral spirits?

Post by kx59 on October 20th 2010, 10:17 pm

I'm working really small areas at a time right now. I need suggestions on what I can use to accurately measure out a 50/50 mix of paint and mineral spiirits. I've been eyeballing it, using plastic cups to mix in, but I'm not getting it right. I need something with some kind of volume marks on it so I can get my mix consistent.
any input is greatly appreciated.

I used something like the small dixie cups. I would dip the paint out of the can, and pour in the MS.

I put it all in the roller pan and just mixed it in there.

For really small areas you may do better getting a small re-sealable container (Quart, 1/2 gallon or something) and mixing up a batch of the 50/50, then getting out what you need, as you need it

Lowes has resealable plastic quart containers for paint (gallon size too) that have oz lines on them for easy measuring. Its what I use.

I second what ANeat said. In fact I would consider mixing all your paint up at one time so it is all the same consistancy and seal it in jars or something. That way you could pour out what you need and whats left over you can put back in the jar. At least thats how I do it.

That is what I did.
Got a small can of rustoleum gloss black poured it into a big jar, then poured the mineral sprints into the small can (rustoleum can) and then poured that into jar 50/50 mix.
I only pour what I need into the roller tray.
Another tip is to have second jar and once you have finish one coat remove the 4" roller and place it into the jar and seal it until you need it again.
