Dave in KC area.

Post by DaveB on November 10th 2010, 2:00 pm

Hey, how's it goin? My name is Dave, and I live in a suburb of KC.
I've done 2 projects in the last couple years. 1990 blazer 2wd V8 in Regal Red, then a 1984 Corvette in Yellow.
I'm currently working on my 1995 RCSB Chevrolet in Gloss black. I've been reading here for probably 6 months. Enjoy the site, pics, and information. I think the biggest thing I've picked up besides motivation is the penetrol additive which kicks butt for me so far.
I appreciate the friendly forum.. I tried to get into this once on a V8 S10 forum and the resident professional painter became stupid immediately. Sorry fella, but it IS a good option for 50 bucks, or 100 bucks, or any amount WELL short of a pro paint job. I actually take pride in the DIY of it and the flaws.. altho by now I'm having very few!
I'll probably post a project thread, though I have to remind myself to take pics. I only have 2 of the prep stage, and I have coat 2 completed and don't have any pics yet. OY.

Thanks again.

I'm a firm believer in DIY. The pride alone is worth bucks to me and not everybody has dollars for a pro job and the neat thing about these is if you get it messed up, you can fix it.
By the way welcome

my theory is why waste money on paint when you can use it for go-fast parts! Most of my cars never made it past primer...

And welcome to the forums!

Welcome.... yes most "real" painters lose there mind when you tell them that you're going to roll your car with Rusto. I have heard it all believe me. The funny part is that I can paint, been spraying cars since 1988. Spraying in a garage is a pain, dust, over spray, the smell, not to mention the cost of a gallon of base coat and clear coat. My thinking is this, rolling is cheap, no over spray, cheap, cheap oh and it's cheap...lol.... My Falcon is a daily driver so this is a perfect car to roll. Plus I can't wait to see the looks on peoples faces when I tell them "yup rolled it myself"........

Welcome Dave, we'd love to see your projects, especially that Corvette. Because fiberglass is not easy to refinish and all. I came very close this past summer to purchasing a 1985 Corvette that wasn't pretty...

$1995 in Killeen Texas at a dealer but we moved up here to WF and I didn't get to bite.

I think that car would have looked terrific in Yellow!
