Best Place to Buy Sandpaper

Post by LARRYBOMB on December 17th 2010, 2:21 pm

Just curious where everyone is buying their sandpaper. Where is the cheapest sandpaper sold. Like Wal Mart has 3M sandpaper but each little package is over $3. Seems like this would be a big cost of a project if it's that expensive with all the sanding involved.

I would rather spend the money on better paper. The cheap stuff doesn't last so if you're using 3 cheap sheets to every 1 good quality sheet are you really saving any money.
I get all of mine through the local auto paint distributor. Or if I need just a few sheets I'll go to the local AutoZone.

You'll be happier with the better paper. And well used 400 sheets are great for sanding spray can primer.

Stay away from harbor freight paper. It's junk. I have full sheets that literally last a few minutes. Who makes the best?

Ebay!

For heavy sanding the red Norton 3X (Home depot) is great - it doesn't load up.

for finish/polish sanding I found a Ebay seller that had a great deal - I think they sell 15 full sheets you pick the grits for like $10 shipped

I'm using the 3m sand paper. It's expensive but a quality product IMO.

Stay away from no-name stuff on Ebay. It is first class CRAP. I bought some because my middle name is cheep Laughing . It was pure junk. It would even tear when I tried to put it on my sanding block and lasted just a few sanding passes. It still "felt" ok but the sharpness of the grit was gone. You can't go wrong with brand name stuff tho and you can find it on Ebay. Pony up the $$$ for good paper. It will save you time and dollars in the end.
