Way more info than can be offered in one post. Sorry. I suggest you use the search function and search a bit first or spend a couple of hours just reading. To be honest with you it looks simple and easy (and it is, sort of) But there is a lot of work involved (sweat equity) as opposed to $$$$$. You can't just open a can of paint, pour it in a paint pan and start rolling. If you are serious about painting your car, do your self a favor first and spend a few hours here and read, read, read. I'm not trying to turn you off to this, I do want you to understand what what has to happen and the hours involved to get a good paint job so you won't get started and quit in the middle and end up with crap and be unhappy.
By the way, welcome welcome

I've read posts on the process multiple times here and elsewhere, but are there any recommendations for real good comprehensive descriptions here or elsewhere?

Sorry but if you have read all the posts here and elsewhere then that is about as comprehensive as it gets. Everybody has their own way about doing it. Read all you can and just do it. Its only paint. If you screw it up just sand it back down and come back and ask specific questions so we can help. You will NOT find a "this is how you do it" guide here. What you will find is "how I did it and it worked for me".

That's pretty much what I did. I took notes from here and YouTube.com under $50 paint job. Everything I read and video's I watched helped me get started with my project. The painting process is easy. It is the prep work that you will work the hardest on. There are several site that can show the basics of prepping a car for paint. Like I said also, YouTube can really help you out but just the same this site has a wealth of information also.

Most use high density foam rollers and foam brushes to apply the paint.
