Air vs. Electric, what should I do?

Post by GreenMachine on March 9th 2011, 4:50 pm

Right now my dad has a big roll around air compressor and air gun, so I'd only have to go to the trouble of hauling it around, but since I've got multiple projects and want to do things like two tones it might be a problem keeping it for awhile. I could always just get my own compressor, but what would be the smallest I could get that would still be good?

An electric gun seems more convienant, but I'm not sure how the quality is on those compared to air. Anybody have experience with both?

I know of a guy that sprayed with a 12 gal compressor on youtube. He said it comes on right away but will hold presser while painting. When I looked into buy one, I looked for the highest cfm's I could afford. I ended up getting a Husky 60 gal 3.2 hp. I works great for painting or running a DA sander which is what I tried it on first.
When you get one, make sure you have a water separator and a Inline Desiccant filter at the spray gun.

I'm curious also what the outcome was using an electric style gun. I have painted with an air compressor before using automotive paint but I would like to experiment with an electric gun.

Sorry, I guess that's what happens when you read and post while your real sleepy. I somehow missed the electric gun part. Well, I can't help ya on that. I would be interested in knowing that also.
