FYI custom rust paint colours

Post by NAP1947 on March 23rd 2011, 8:22 pm

I was in my local Homehardware Store today. They sell Rustoleum and their own label (Weathershield) of the same stuff.
They will custom tint either the Rustoleum or the Weathershield to any colour chip they have in the store.
I found a perfect match for the Pale Primrose on our MGB.

I am just completing the rebuild of the steering rack.
After that I will do the passenger's door as this is the only panel I ned to replace.
That will be the first paint panel. I want to spray it so it is complete then I will decide whether to do a fast paint or go to the rear end.
Car will look funny with part stripes and part none but that may be the best approach. Will post the door when finished.
Cheers

How did the panel turn out? I'm interested in finding a ford Cobra Blue if possible!

I am behind keeping you informed.
Except for operator issues the car is painted and I am very pleased.
The colour match is very close. The car now needs to be wet sanded and buffed.
It is sitting now until mid March when we will tackle that.
I took a piece of white card board and coated it with touch up and Home Hardware used their colour matching computer to mix up the paint.
Suggest you buy a gallon as quarts may not be from the same base batch, otherwise intermix your quarts to be uniform.

So I'm wondering if Lowe's will color tint to get me pretty spot on for the cobra blue paint? I'd like to do that with some gray stripes!!! Thanks for the info & yeah I'll make sure I get a whole gallon mixed rather than a quart at a time, just makes sense...

I would think if they have a colour mix computer they could do it.
Good luck.
