1988 Chevy K2500 Pickup

Post by dans chevy on May 3rd 2011, 7:38 pm

Hello, i have a 1988 Chevy pickup. i am new to this site and would have never thought that roll painting a car would actually come out good. after seeing all the different cars on the site. i realize i was completely wrong. i am in the middle of doing body work on it and now im thinking of painting it this way. Any advice or suggestion for when i paint my truck?

its honestly kinda shocking how well it does come out. To me also. Thinning is key though from what I saw. I laid down my first coat it looked ok but had decent orange peel. I thinned to about 40% paint 60% mineral spirits for the following coats and had almost 0 orange peel and ALOT more gloss. If I have to paint another in the future I will roll it as well more than likely.

There was another guy on here doing a truck like that, and he was going for the SS454 look.

Nice truck Dan! Like said before, proper thinning is key. I go at 1:1, but sanding can be a pain if you don't lay it out right. I will say that you shouldn't even think of laying down the first coat until your surface is fully prepared; I've made that mistake.

Any color plans yet?
