rolling normal auto paint

Post by Corkman on June 18th 2011, 1:59 am

Can you roll just normal auto paint the same way you can the tremclad? I would like to paint my vw bus in a satin or semi gloss like the hotrod flatz, looking for a good beige. Just was wondering if I purchased hotrod flatz if I could roll it on?
Thanks

I think that is a urethane paint. My buddy used it on his 54. I had 2 customs that had a satin finish. I used urethane basecoat, sprayed mixing a 1:1 with enamel reducer. My suggestion is buy a quart of urethane basecoat mix it 2:1 or even 3:1 with enamel reducer and roll a test panel. A quart of basecoat is maybe $15.00 vs Flatz which is probably 30 or 40 a quart.
just my 2 cents.

I don't think you can do that with basecoat/clearcoat (wouldn't work for me anyway) but enamel would "probably" be ok. I would suggest the same as 63falcon and do a test panel.
