Rolled on some Duplicolor Bed Liner and got a chance to take some photos in the sunshine. The only real reason I did the bedliner was to just get everything one color. The bed liner was kind of like rolling on pudding.

Rolled on the 1st primer coats on the doghouse, cab and cowl. The "plan" is to use similar colors as the factory did so I can attempt to replicate a natural looking patina.

Here are some photos I am using as a guide. This 1963 belongs to Chad Mcdonald. He was gracious enough to send me some close up photos:

Rolled the orange paint on the cab and dog house. Sanding and deglossing to follow.

Removed the tape and paper off the grill surround. Getting excited, looks better than I had envisioned. Painting the lower part of the surround really gives it that ole gasser look, at least IMHO.

Up next.. color sanding and deglossing the new orange paint.

Thanks for the words of encouragement cac1967. I am slow.... but determined! Rolling Eyes

The new paint see's the light of day.... pulled the truck out of the shop to change the oil on my daily driver. If the insane heat ever lets up I can do the color sanding...

Thanks, I do like sharing my progress, but I also admit most folks think I am crazy, painting "that cool old truck" with a paint roller. I have always been the type though that likes to park across the line. Laughing

Finally got a bit of a cool down weather wise here in Colorado so I color sanded & deglossed the cab and doghouse. Next up.. re-assembly which is sure to be a rewarding time.

63Falconconvert, Tommy Hillbilly, cac1967

Ya’ll have stuck by me in my unconventional endeavors. Your comments and posts are sincerely appreciated!

It is amazing to me how many folks turn a deaf ear when the word "roller" is mentioned in regards to a paint job. Not here on this site, but in the automotive world in general. The end justifies the means.... but if you don't toe the line, and spray the paint, you're an outcast.... at least that's my take.

Dare to be different... crossing the line is a way of life!

I'd like to thank the good folks at American Greetings for selling their "Webshots" website to "Smile" and thus every picture I have ever uploaded from their site is now labeled as "Temporarily Unavailable". Funny, "Smile" isn't at all what I am thinking... Something more along the line of wtf

Updated 12-22-2012: I have updated my Photobucket account and fixed most of the links...

Re: My 1965 C-10 Shop Truck: "Faux-tina Paint or Bust"

Post by Lakeroadster on January 29th 2013, 7:56 am

Installed some modified bed side trim across the back of the cab at the two tone paint break line.

Pretty subtle, not very noticeable in the photos below, but it visually ties the custom cab b-pillar trimpanels together.

I also mocked up some side trim on the truck, just to get a visual of how it would look. I am still 'on the fence" as to if I want the trim at all.

Comments?

I personally like the short spear look vs. the long stock spear.
