Re: painting my 68 firebird

Post by stang_krazy on September 15th 2011, 10:44 pm

Been thinking about what's going on and why you having trouble, I reread your post and thought about how you said that you applied your polish in the same manner as you did your ulitimate compound.

Ultimate compound has S.M.A.T. (super micro abrasive technology) micro abrasives that after worked in for so long will break down and is harmless to your paint surface and your done with this section and time to move over to the next section and remember to also over lap your last section.

You also said that you worked the polish in same as you did your cleaner, so again polish for paint is like lotion for your skin. You can keep rubbing the lotion in on your skin but your skin can only absorb so much before you over saturate.

Now after you have applied the polish to your bonnet the first time you've loaded your bonnet or pad and then apply to the surface and when it comes time to apply some more polish/cleaner or wax you dont wont to keep appling the same amount as you did the first time becase that will start to over saturate the bonnet or pad and when working with a polish to begin with it's full of polishing oils that also soaks into the fibers of the bonnet or pad and will start to seperate and tear.

What I'm getting at is that after ever second application of appling a cleaner-polish or a wax always take another micro fiber towel and hold against your bonnet/pad and turn on your machine for a few seconds so any excess product will be removed to your micro fiber towel and this helps keep you from getting to much product on your bonnet/pad and less changes of having to much product on your paint.

Still can't understand about the dots? will help if I can see a pic. Hope this has help you alittle more.

are you still running points or an HEI. Are you getting spark, gas to the carb, bad fuel pump. Check your coil. Fry your balist? Just throwing out ideas.

Actually had to rewire the electric fan cuz the wires melted and my mechanic said they did some other wiring all screwey so Im thinkin maybe the stereo that I dont use cuz they put it in themselves(kid I bought the car from)and it dont work right is shortin out or drainin the battery.Gonna check it out tomarrow and charge the battery tonight.Put another coat of U.C. on today since I work at a particle board plant and it gets showered in sawdust by the end of my workday so I washed some of the old coats off.Gonna try the Meguiars Gold wax with carnuaba after she gets fixed(hopefully)!

Well the battery is shot so gotta wait to buy one.Still something is goin on with the wiring. One thing I noticed I had the door open against this wood post I have to keep the tarp up over the car and it left a lil nick in the paint!Im thinkin my paint is still really soft and not cured all the way?I think I might take the tarp down and let it sit out in the sun more.Maybe thats why I have the weird spots in sections on the paint.Maybe its still gassing when I polished it?I took pics just gotta get em put up here. What you guys think?

Sweet. And I still say that some red pinstripes would really make that car pop.

Well just got done waxing her for the first time and thankfully no problems at all.She looks really good!Strange that I used the Meg.ultimate compound with no problems and the Meg.ultimate carnuba wax with great results but when I tried using the ultimate polish inbetween the two I had crappy results and just skipped using the polish after the second attempt .Anyways the minute I get some of these emblems an goodies showin up and put on Ill put up some more pics!Later!

Great Bird you got there.

Anyone at the local burger joint sitting in a Prius/Fit/SmartFor2 is going to wet themselves when they see that bad boy rumbling through.

Love the car.
