1985 S10 Ext Cab

Post by 85S10project on December 27th 2007, 5:56 pm

I'm not painting the whole truck right now but I am however painting the frame. This is an ongoing project b/c I always seem to want to do more. I have another box for it and I was going to fix the cab but I now have picked up a running truck for parts since it only cost 300.00.

For anybody that wants to paint there frame. I would recommend not thinning the primer (if you use it) so that you get coverage the first time. I did however thin the red paint until it was around milk witch it will take me a couple times until the red fully covers. Right now it looks somewhat pink. Tell me what you think.

Heres a before picture

Heres my progress. Sorry I didnt have the digital out for a before frame shot.

Heres the hood and fender witch I have already shaved the body line.

The frame in White primer

Now todays Progress the frame in RED

My gas tank painted red as well.

And since I had left over paint I painted my air cleaner lid.

Cool idea painting the frame but it may have been easier to hit it with the Rustoleum rattle cans. Did you prep the frame or anything to remove any dirt/grease?

Yeah I ran a wire wheel and brush over the frame and then I cleaned it with mineral spirits. The coverage from brushing it on is actually better than using spary cans.
Thats also why I didnt paint the inside of the frame I still need to clean it up and take the tires off.

Well I picked up a parts truck for the interior and box. Plus I have the frame almost done theres a few spots that need to be re done and the gas tank is half done.
My new seats

And my new box

And the newest of my project

The trucks going to be painted black but I was testing the idea of red and if I want to 2 tone the truck.

And I painted my bumper as well.

Well I have the tank finished and I almost have the rear of the frame all done just a few more spots that have to get painted black and then I can put the tank in with my new straps and sending unit and then its time to pu the box, fender, door, and hood back on and then I can drive it again.
I should have some pictures tomorrow.

I have this back together now but I need to fix a tranny line and some wiring issues with my taillights and then I will get it rolled outside and get some pics of it. Its gonna be repainted but not until I get patch panels and fix the rust.
