98 Chevy Metro

Post by Techmaven on July 22nd 2011, 1:42 pm

Just picked this up to combat the $4 gallon gas bull$hit..Body is pretty straight and rust free but clearcoat is almost gone on the hood/roof/trunk..The green base is metallic..has anyone successfully re-cleared a car with this dilemma? I'll post pics as soon as I scrounge up batteries for the camera Razz

It can be done but the bad clear has to come off first, at least 3-4 inches back into the good stuff and that means sanding. I would also question the quality and thickness of the base coat as it has been exposed for a while and the metallic has probably degraded. If this is going to be a "hooptee" for just mileage the above may not matter much but I wanted you to be aware of possible problems anyway.

A 17 year old kid turned left in front of my wife and the poor Geo got totaled...Stay tuned, I'll have something else soon. Sad
