1986 Camaro Iroc Hood
Ive been working on the hood for a little and its almost done... I think.
I need some help and opinions though:
When wet sanding I'm trying to get it smooth, and get rid of all the shinny parts right?
Below is a picture after wet sanding the 6th coat with 1000 grit. I'm not really even applying any pressure, just sliding the sanding block. Am I wet sanding it correctly? Is it suppose to look like this? Do I need to wet sand the shinny parts to make it look like the rest of the hood?

(All the little white specks you see are from the towel, I just got done drying it.)

Now when I wet sand my final coat with 2000, is it suppose to look something like that, and then just buff out? As you can probably tell from all the questions I'm nervous about if I'm doing this right.

From what I can tell by the pictures your wet sanding looks great. Ideally you want all of the shiny spots gone. It looks like you have shiny lines instead. I think if you went ahead and buffed what you have it will turn out awesome. I have tried to buff out paint that looked worse than what you have here and it turned out fine. It's looking good. Make sure to post pictures of it when its all buffed out.

I agree with tzyoung. It's looking good so far and your technique seems to be working well. When you wetsand your not trying to remove the paint, you are leveling everything out to make it uniform. As far as the shiny areas, yes wetsand them until its all the same. The entire area should look dull but will feel as smooth as glass. Don't worry about it, a high revolution buffer will bring your shine right back out where it needs to be. By the way, I'm loving the white and black Camaros in the background.

Re: 1986 Camaro Iroc Hood
Thanks for the info guys
I wet sanded some more this morning and started to polish it. Its coming along nicely I think. I'm using a Porter Cable, and Menzerna Intensive Polish pictured below. In some of the pictures its hard to see, but you can see some of the dullness/sanding lines, or something? As I continue to polish it out with this, all this will disappear like you mentioned correct? Is there a different swirl and scratch remover that I should be using?
(as you can tell from the pics I haven't done the middle, or where the louvers sit yet.)

Thanks
. My dads got the white 92 Z-28, My bros is the black 83Z behind my Iroc (under the car cover), and my mom has the Black 92 RS behind the white one. Yeah you could say we love Camaros

That's looking great so far. If you are having trouble with micro scratches in your finish. (They make everything look hazy) Then you might want to try a good swirl remover and then use your polish. The swirl remover is kinda of like using a little coarser grit to take out sanding scratches.
I'm no expert at detailing, but I personally think that you will get the results you want by keeping at it with that polish.
Keep up the good work

Wow, kudos! I only wish my car will come out looking like yours. What paint are you using? I'm using Gloss Black Rust-o-leum.
