spraying tomorrow

Post by hard attack on August 17th 2011, 1:59 am

Spraying my 91 dodge stealth TT gloss black tomorrow. The maaco paint job it had was ***.

I will be thinning it with acetone. Can anyone give me ANY tips on spraying with acetone? (mixing, dry time...etc)

I plan on

Mixing 10-15% acetone

Spraying on 3 or 4 coats waiting for it to tack up between coats.

I do have mineral spirits, but i start school on the 18th and I dont have time to mess with the drying process of that. Plus I KNOW my clumsy *** will mess it up somehow.

I never used acetone but if it was me and I was spraying I would use enamel reducer and a enamel hardener. Your paint will dry rock hard in a day.

The acetone will dry fast, I would mix about 4 oz ms with your paint acetone mixture. I used a mixture of 8 oz rusto 4oz ms 4 oz acetone to paint the door jambs on my 87 ranger, worked really great!!dryed in about an hour. You could adjust this mixture to suite your need's.As 63falconvert said get the valspar hardner for oil based paint's!!
